Cheaper alternative to a DVR

I am unfamiliar with this particular product. I see it requires the cameras to be bought separately. My largest concern would be resolution and screen pixel size once uploaded to a PC/Mac and it seems than you would need to purchase additional IR lights so it can pick up further than 20 feet. It seems like it would be a decent starter though

I was wondering if anyone would recommend this as a cheaper alternative to an expensive DVR security camera set up. Considering it. Opinions?
