Yeah, it looks like the camera didn't adjust for the brightness correctly. If its a fully-auto camera then sometimes there's a mode in which the camera will initiate a pre-flash burst which it uses for adjusting levels. Sometimes that doesn't work too well.
In this shot you can see how much the bright flash hitting the hand in the foreground glares. This, I have a feeling is bouncing back into the lens and bouncing back and forth between the optics creating that halo effect. And its pink because of the coloration of the hand.
This is one reason I really prefer when people upload pictures into the Albums rather than directly to the forum. Because the photo album area keeps the images in their original form, and allows you to see the EXIF data. The EXIF data really would tell the whole story here.
